Protocol, transport & expatriate tax

The part of an assignment that nobody budgets for

Between the aircraft door and a filed tax return sits a long list of small obligations. Handled badly they consume a senior manager's first month; handled well they are invisible.

On the ground

Protocol and settling-in

  • Arrival and airport protocol

Meet-and-assist through immigration and customs at Dhaka, with a named contact who can intervene if a visa endorsement is questioned at the counter.

  • Accommodation and transport

Serviced apartments or hotels vetted for long stays, dedicated drivers, and route planning for staff commuting between the city and an industrial site.

  • Family settling-in

School introductions, medical registration and the practical administration that decides whether an assignment survives its first quarter.

With the revenue board

Expatriate tax compliance

  • Residency and liability position

Bangladeshi tax exposure turns on days present and the source of remuneration. Establish the position before the first payroll run, not at filing season.

  • Annual return filing

Preparation and submission of the expatriate's income tax return with NBR, reconciled against the employer's payroll and any split-payroll arrangement.

  • Tax clearance on exit

A departing expatriate typically needs a clearance position before leaving. Left late, it delays flights; handled early, it is routine.
